Imo Govt Must Care  About Flood ,Its Victims,As Other Parts Of Nigeria  Are Hit.

True to the prediction of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet, warning some states of the federation to prepare for possible flooding, states like Niger and Kogi are already  reeling in the devastating effects of the disaster that hit the two northcentral states recently.

Already the flood disaster has claimed several lives and destroyed many property including homes.

Reports indicate that over 150 people were confirmed dead from the said flooding; over 3000 persons displaced with over 250 houses destroyed so far in the affected states.

The trend of flooding in the country appears to continue to follow a similar trajectory, with states located within major rivers like the River Niger

mainly affected.

In 2024 for instance, over 800,000 were impacted by flooding in Niger State with over 400,000 said to have been displaced.

In the southern part of Nigeria, states like Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Anambra, Imo, among others are seen to be food-prone.

Imo is one of the states listed by NiMet as in its 2025 prediction. Areas in Imo with proximity to the Niger Delta including Ohaji, Egbema and Oguta communities

are known to have been constantly hit by flooding. This does not conclude that other parts of the state are completely immune from the disaster in view of other predisposing factors such as blocking of waterways, poor or stuffed drainages, among others.

Nigeria Newspoint reiterates its earlier call on the Imo State Government to start taking precautionary measures now that NiMet’s flood prediction has begun to manifest in some states.
